9th Artists Night
Orangery Darmstadt
On June 27 and 28, 2026, the next Artists Night will take place at the Orangery Darmstadt under the theme "DoppelPunkt" ("DoublePoint" or colon). What is the significance of the colon, and why is it the theme of the 2026 Artists Night?
When developing the theme, the colon became a pseudonym for "encounter": the two dots capture and visualize the special moments of encounter between people, between people and artwork, between people and God. They can be artistically expanded and related in any way imaginable, in color and form, in space and materiality, and so on.
Looking at the double point, it consists of two individual dots placed vertically together, leading to an important statement. Damyeong Yoo said at a meeting: "The colon symbol is like light and salt. It doesn't shine and season to reveal itself, but to illuminate someone or something."
And indeed, Uwe Tellkamp ends his novel "The Tower" with a colon. "He thus demonstrates, very poetically, that the end doesn't have to be an end, but can also be a transition to something else or even the announcement of something new." (see https://www.projekt-lektorat.de/ein-multitalent-der-doppelpunkt/)
For the Artists Night, the colon offers visual and performing artists, musicians, and poets ample scope for diverse thematic positions, viewpoints, and statements.
What moves you? What socio-political or social message, what visual language, what thoughts occupy you and can find expression in the theme of the colon? We are interested in your personal, individual expression. You can apply to participate in the Artists' Night 2026 until April 26, 2026 May 17, 2026.
The opening hours for the Artists Night at the Orangery, Bessunger Str. 44, 64285 Darmstadt, are Saturday, June 27th from 4:30 pm to 10 pm and Sunday, June 28th from 10:30 am to 6 pm. Admission is free.
