June 29 and 30, 2024
8th Artists Night
Orangery Darmstadt
"Water is." This is our theme for the artists' night, which will take place on June 29 and 30, 2024 in the Orangery Darmstadt.
The sentence is a statement, an assertion. Water is indispensable, because without water there is no life. But there is a catch: only a small proportion of the available fresh water is actually usable. In addition, water is distributed unevenly around the world and billions of people have no access to clean water. But the fact is that plants, animals and people need water to live. With the theme "Water is." We want to deal with the importance of water as a resource and use our works of art to stimulate thought, ask questions and encourage hope.
The artist night is a unique platform where advanced and professional artists show their art together.
The vernissage is on Saturday at 5 p.m. Lukas Grossmann, a musician from Darmstadt, will play as part of the opening. Ulrike E Sticher will lead the participatory performance "Water and More" into the perception and observation of water and color. Carsten Vollmer, a musician from Franconian Switzerland, will accompany the performance with improvisations on the keyboard.
The participating artists come from Darmstadt and the surrounding area as well as from other parts of Germany. The exhibition includes works from the fields of installation, painting, photography, object and textile art.
In the large room of the Orangery, visitors will find a long table, the "banquet table". It is a jointly created installation full of artistic beauty that invites visitors to sit down and dine visually.
Cordula Hilgert from Viernheim, photography, will be leading a workshop-to-go on both days if the weather is good and will draw attention to the fact that clean drinking water belongs to everyone and should be available to everyone free of charge. In the workshop, cyanotypes (blue prints) in the shape of drops will be created. Each participant can take a drop home free of charge.
A live link to the water meadows in Forchheim, which have recently been recognized as an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO, is planned. Dr. Barbara Vollmer, chair of school education at the Otto Friedrich University in Bamberg and visual artist, is currently researching these meadows. She is leading seminars with creative lessons in the spirit of STEAM education. Together with a group of students, she will share her discoveries with us live.
On Saturday at 7 p.m. and on Sunday at 2 p.m., the artists will guide you through the exhibition. They will be on site on both days and look forward to meeting and talking to visitors.
The finissage is on Sunday at 4 p.m. During the finissage, Ulrike E Sticher will lead the audience into the perception and observation of water and color in the second part of the participatory performance "Water and More". Lukas Grossmann will accompany the performance with improvisations on the keyboard.
The opening times of the artist's night in the Orangery, Bessunger Str. 44, 64285 Darmstadt are on Saturday, June 29th from 4:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. and on Sunday, June 30th from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is free.
